Bio
Rimma was born and raised in Russia and moved to New York City to earn her Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College, specializing in digital art and video production. After graduation, she worked for television production companies as a video editor and motion graphics artist, assisted on various photoshoots and commercials, and even worked as a model. In her free time, she devoted herself to painting, primarily abstract pieces using acrylics and ink.
After relocating to California, Rimma pursued art professionally, completing her Master of Fine Arts at the Academy of Art University, with a focus on painting and drawing. Inspired by the human figure, gestures, and facial expressions, she found that working from photo references gave her more control over composition and process. Her creative approach begins with staging scenes that capture either a specific mood, or natural energy in her subjects. While she loves the versatility of oil paint, she often experiments with different surfaces and mediums, basing her choice on the theme of each piece. Her technique involves detailed underpainting with warm tones, focusing on form, proportion, and values, before building layers from dark to light, using thin, translucent darks and sculpting the form with lighter tones.
